UMHB women’s Basketball to play in Trinity’s Tournament in November

BELTON, Texas- The first scheduling news of the 2021-22 season for the UMHB women’s basketball team has become available.

On Monday, a Trinity spokesperson confirmed to True To The Cru that UMHB will be one of the teams participating in Trinity’s tournament on November 5-6 in San Antonio, Texas. It will be the earliest start to a season that the Crusaders have had since they opened the 2018-19 season with an exhibition at North Texas. Of course, there is still a possibility that UMHB could arrange exhibition games prior to the tournament dates.

UMHB will play the hosts, as well as one additional opponent, meaning the Cru will have the chance to open the season playing consecutive games and gain experience competing in a tournament-type setting, with little time between contests.

The Trinity tournament, called the “Together Tigers Invitational” in 2019, is well known for its challenging competition and intense atmosphere. A strength of schedule booster for any program, it featured Trinity, No. 8 George Fox, No. 9 St. Thomas (Minn.), and ETBU when it was last held in November of 2019.

Since 2009, UMHB is 1-6 against Trinity, having won its last game against the Tigers on November 23, 2010.

Trinity won the 2021 SCAC Tournament with a 73-63 win over Colorado College on March 21, and went 10-2 while playing a conference-only slate this past year. The Tigers were listed in “Others Receiving Votes” when D3hoops released its final Top 15 of the 2020-21 season on March 21.

The tournament is set to be held at Trinity’s Calgaard Gymnasium, a 1,100 seat venue on the school’s campus that has hosted multiple NCAA tournament games and was renovated in 2017.
