BELTON, Texas- On Wednesday, True To The Cru learned that Nathan Stolz, a 6’6 forward from John Brown University, had announced his decision to transfer to UMHB, making him the sixth transfer in head coach Clif Carroll’s 2021 recruiting class.
Stolz comes to Belton after two years at John Brown, an NAIA program in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. There, he played in a total of 33 games, averaging 8.9 minutes per contest. In an abbreviated 2020-21 season, Stolz played in eight of the Golden Eagles’ 15 games, starting two of them. He averaged 2.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, adding two assists and one block on the year.
The College Station, Texas native was homeschooled and played his high school basketball for his father, Scott, starring on the Aggieland Panthers homeschool squad. Playing for Aggieland, Stolz led the team to three consecutive titles at the National Christian Home School Championships and averaged over 500 points per season. As a senior, he tallied 20 points per game.
While Stolz clearly has a strong presence in the post, he can shoot from outside, and displayed it at John Brown, where he attempted 36 three-pointers as a freshman and made 10 of them. That will be key, as UMHB’s high tempo offense requires its forwards and centers to move around on the floor and opens up a high number of good looks from the perimeter.
With Tyler Stone’s decommitment on Thursday, Stolz becomes the 10th member of UMHB’s incoming class.
