“It’s an amazing feeling”: Jerry Cephus is making an impact with UMHB football

BELTON- Jerry Cephus still remembers sitting on those bleachers, watching the action play out on the field, and like any kid, he wanted to be a part of it. The fourth-grader had watched the team of elementary school football players for three days now. Nobody had seemed to notice him. That was, until a man, evidently one of the team’s coaches, walked towards the bleachers and gave him an offer that Cephus could not turn down.

“We’re going to be better from it”: 3 takeaways from Larry’s Harmon’s Sept. 12 press conference

BELTON- How do you push forward after losing a national championship-caliber game? By simply moving on.

That was one of UMHB head coach Larry Harmon’s main points in the early minutes of his weekly press conference on Monday morning, as he fielded questions, almost all of which were related to Saturday’s road loss to now-No. 4 Wisconsin-Whitewater.

UMHB head coach Ben Allen’s home debut was a victorious one on Saturday night, as the Crusaders narrowly defeated Our Lady of the Lake, 3-2.

UMHB found the back of the net early, as Ozarks transfer Daniel Lyon scored his first career goal for the Cru in the 21st minute, for a 1-0 lead. Just under three minutes later, Alex Bethke tallied his first collegiate goal, putting UMHB up 2-0.

That was the score at halftime, and OLLU improved its defense in the opening minutes of the second half. But in the 64th minute, Lyon scored again, making it 3-0. And while OLLU had a late counter, with two goals between the 77th and 80th minutes, the Crusader defense did not allow the Saints to get into position for a potential game-tying shot over the final 10 minutes.

The victory moves the Cru to 2-1 overall this season.
