The Weekend in Review: Softball sweeps series, men’s and women’s tennis pick up first victories of season

There was plenty that occurred this past weekend in UMHB athletics as baseball, softball, basketball, tennis all competed, and picked up victories early in the spring. We will recap it all for you in this quick weekend review. No. 14 UMHB women’s basketball falls to No. 22 ETBU in regular season finale

BELTON- The UMHB women’s basketball team had entered the fourth quarter trailing before. And the Cru had always found a way to come back and claim the victory. 

But on Saturday afternoon, there was no fourth-quarter comeback. Instead there was a wake-up call, an “attention-getter”, as UMHB head coach Mark Morefield called it, as the 14th-ranked Crusaders struggled to score for the final three quarters and fell to No. 22 ETBU, 71-57, marking the team’s first loss since Nov. 26.

Alexia Martin leading UMHB women’s basketball in senior season with the goal of NCAA Tournament return

BELTON- Alexia Martin remembers having the thought, ‘We could’ve gone deep into that tournament,’ But when she looked up on the scoreboard, walking out of the compact gymnasium at Amherst University, there was no  result to be read. The end of their season had not come on the court, but rather while they were at the court, in the form of a phone call.

BELTON- It has been said that great learners make great coaches. If that is the case, then Bethany McLeod has a bright future ahead. 

The UMHB senior guard is entering the final regular season game of her collegiate career in Saturday’s home duel with ETBU, but her involvement in basketball, a sport she has played since age five, is far from over.

UMHB women’s basketball gets past Howard Payne in 80-62 win, claims ASC regular season title

BROWNWOOD- The win streak continued for the No. 14 UMHB women’s basketball team on Thursday night, as the Crusaders won their 18th straight game in an 80-62 victory on Howard Payne’s home court. 

The Cru, ranked No. 14 in the nation, had little trouble putting together a superb effort on the defensive end, which led to quality offense, as 13 different players contributed in the scoring.
