High-pressure moments no problem for UMHB pitching staff, as Cru Softball advances to ASC Tournament Championship

MARSHALL, Texas — The day before her team took the field for its ASC Tournament opener, UMHB head softball coach Melissa Mojica was asked about her pitching staff. Six different pitchers recorded at least five starts in the regular season, and four threw 45.0 innings or more, neither stat being especially common when it comes to a softball pitching staff.

UMHB Softball heads into ASC Tournament, Faces HSU in opening game on Thursday

MARSHALL, Texas — In a sport with a 40-game regular season, it is incredibly rare to go seven days without playing a game, much less 12. But that is the situation UMHB Softball has found itself in over the last two weeks, its regular season slate entirely wrapped up, and a weekend of anticipation at the ASC Tournament waiting ahead.

The conference tournament does not know the league’s regular season home run leader, or which pitching staff boasts the top season-long ERA. The seeding of the teams is notable and based on conference regular season results, but even the No. 1 seed starts in a 0-0 game just the same.
