USBWA selects UMHB’s Arieona Rosborough as D-III Player of the Week

BELTON-Following an incredible week that saw UMHB women’s basketball win a pair of key American Southwest Conference matchups in Abilene, UMHB’s Arieona Rosborough has been selected by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association as the D-III Women’s Player of the Week.

It is the latest in a string of exceptional honors for the junior guard, who was also named the ASC Player of the Week and selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for her efforts. With this most recent honor, Rosborough became the first ASC representative to earn the weekly award during the 2023-24 season.

In wins over McMurry and Hardin-Simmons, the Mansfield, Texas native averaged 33 points per game, and etched her name into the record books with a 36-point scoring effort in the 108-96 victory at McMurry. That performance was the most points scored in a single game in program history by an individual player, as she shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

Rosborough, who is also nicknamed “Cheat Code” by some for her versatility and overall ability to contribute on both ends of the floor, finished 27-of-32 from the free-throw line and grabbed 23 rebounds, including 14 in the overtime win at Hardin-Simmons on Thursday.

UMHB’s leading scorer, Rosborough is now 18th in the nation in points per game, with 21.2. She is also No. 2 in D-III in free throws made, with 109 made attempts on the season. Also a talented defender, Rosborough had seven steals this past week.

The 2-0 performance in Abilene elevated UMHB to a No. 15 national ranking in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll and a No. 17 rank in the WBCA Top 25.
