Instead, the Crusaders went toe-to-toe with the nation’s seventh-ranked team, ETBU, on the road, and pulled out a shutout victory on Friday evening, finishing the weekend fourth in the ASC standings.

BELTON- The UMHB softball team began its 2022 season on Sunday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with Southwestern (TX) at Belton’s Dee Dillon Field.

The Cru took game one, edging the Pirates 2-1, behind five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Bayleigh Grogan. Grogan allowed just three hits and struck out three, while Elisabeth Paul paced UMHB at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Game two was pushed into extra innings, with the score knotted at zero, before Southwestern scored four runs in the top of the eighth. A Taylor Holman RBI single in the bottom of the inning brough Elissa Elliott across the plate, but the visiting Pirates held on for the win.

UMHB travels to Hardin-Simmons for a three-game series this weekend, beginning on Friday.
