Daymeonn Vercher

Even when it seemed that UMHB’s 2022 incoming class had been completely wrapped up, the Cru secured another commitment less than 85 days before the season opener. Vercher, a talented guard who received offers from Southwestern, McMurry and Mount Union, adds to a stacked freshman offensive line group for the Crusaders this fall. Twice named 6A All-State by the Texas Sportswriters’ Association, Vercher, at 6’2, 315 lbs, is quick on the snap and has great lateral movement. He also has experience playing center, something he did a various points during his time on the field for United South.
Keagyn Ure

Commitment Date: Aug. 9, 2021
Ure’s commitment to UMHB was only made known to True To The Cru on June 6 of this year, when the program announced Ure as an incoming freshman for the 2023 season. But she committed before her senior year began, and while committed to the Cru, hit .261 in 36 games for Timber Creek. She recorded 15 RBIs and had 30 hits, while posting a near-perfect .938 fielding percentage as a catcher and outfielder. Ure has power behind her swing, and is part of a very solid recruiting class for head coach Melissa Mojica, who will enter her third season in that position in 2023. Following her senior year, Ure was awarded the Melody Fuentes Unsung Hero Award from the Timber Creek softball program, embodying “the whole spirit of a kid who works hard no matter the circumstances.”
Trace Holmes

Holmes, a quarterback and free safety in the Class of 2022, stands at 5’10, 165 lbs, but makes up for it with his versatile skill set. He is quick on both sides of the ball, with that natural ability to outrun everyone else on the field As a quarterback, he has an obvious feel for the pocket, and playing behind a college offensive line, Holmes will have more time to wait for passing lanes to develop, furthering his abilities as a dual-threat signal caller. A testament to his athleticism, he runs a 4.63 40-yard dash, and has a vertical leap of 30.4 inches. Holmes also had offers from North American Univ., Texas Lutheran and Waldorf Univ.
Jack Bruner

The state’s top-ranked Class 4A kicker in 2021 by the Texas Sports Writers Association, Bruner is a late addition to the incoming class, but one who could have an early impact in Belton. He connected on 11 of his 12 field-goal attempts, with a long of 49 yards, during his senior season. One of the top performers at the Kicking World National Showcase, he has a strong leg, and according to a PrepStar Regional Scout, “with the mental toughness to execute under pressure, leg strength and accuracy, this kid is a D1 level talent.” He was offered by UMHB on Feb. 25.
Tyree Perry

The 6’0, 270 lb guard is yet another solid addition to the incoming class of offensive linemen. Perry is quick to make contact with the opposing defensive linemen, possessing a strong first step, creating open holes in the line for the running backs. He helped King HS to a 10-3 mark in 2021, and a third-place finish in District 21-6A.
Jacen Foster

Foster’s transfer to UMHB came to our attention recently, and the offensive lineman returns to his native state with four years of eligibility, but 10 games of collegiate experience. Standing at 6’3, 320 lbs, Foster could contribute early, and is the fifth known transfer for UMHB entering the 2022 season. Coming from D-III Crown College, Foster’s size and versatility as both a guard and tackle makes him a great addition to the incoming class of offensive linemen. He is especially strong in pass protection, demonstrating exceptional lateral footwork.
Saylor Upshaw

Ranked as one of the state’s top wing forwards in the Class of 2023, Upshaw plays incredibly well around the rim, as a top-notch rebounder and consistent scorer in the paint. According to NCSA, she averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game during her junior season and shot 60 percent from the field. Upshaw has great footwork with the ball in her possession, able to beat the help-side defense for a layup off the glass, and she also has an almost-natural rebounding ability on both ends of the floor.
Hudson Johnson

Commitment Date: April 23, 2022
Johnson finished a decorated high school career as a First Team District 25-6A selection, a 1,000 point scorer, and Stony Point’s offensive MVP, playing point guard for the Tigers as a three-year letterman. Quick and agile in transition, Johnson’s ability to move up the floor and dribble past defenders gives him plenty of open looks at the rim, but he also has great range on his shot, consistently connecting from three-point range. Johnson averaged 15.6 points per game as a senior, and also dished out 2.4 assists per contest.
Trey Seigle

Commitment/Signing Date: April 14, 2022
Seigle comes from the east coast to join the reigning ASC champion, and brings with him an exceptional shooting ability. A two-year letterwinner at one of Virginia’s top 6A high schools, Seigle is virtually automatic from three-point range, finishing this season with a 34 percent mark from beyond the arc. With a quick release and great accuracy, defenses struggle to guard the 6’1 shooting guard/point guard, who holds a school record for three-pointers in a game (9). Also very consistent from the free throw line, he averaged 16.0 points per game as a senior.
Zachary Engels

Engels is an excellent addition to the Class of 2022, coming to Belton as a top-notch defender who was voted to the District 25-6A First Team following his senior year. A three-year starter at Westwood, he stands at 6’4, and is versatile, able to connect from long range on the offensive end, or score at the rim. Defensively, he gets into passing lanes, and has the footwork necessary to guard pretty much anyone on the floor. Engels was recently selected to participate in the inaugural “Jordan Clarkson San Antonio vs. Austin All-Star Game” on May 14th in Round Rock. He also held an offer from Southwestern and scored over 1,000 points in his high school career.
Alli Stilp

Stilp is the first known out-of-state addition to UMHB’s 2022 recruiting class, and the 5’8 guard comes to Belton after making a name for herself on the west coast. By late February of her senior year this past season, she was averaging 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 steals per game, en route to a First-Team All-Pacific Conference selection. A dynamic offensive player, Stilp can create her own shot off the dribble and puts pressure on the opposing defense.
Brooke Srncik

Commitment Date: April 2, 2022
A Second-Team All-District selection this past season, Srncik is one of the later additions to the Class of 2022, though she was on UMHB’s radar for several years after the Cru offered the point guard in the summer of 2020. A top-notch defender, it is not often that an opponent gets an open shot with Srncik guarding her. That part of her game is improved with her exceptional ball handling skills in transition, as she is able to create a steal, then take the ball coast-to-coast, either taking the shot at the other end, or dishing it to a teammate for an easy layup.
Sam Gierat

Commitment Date: March 18, 2022
Gierat, a 6’2, 200 lb quarterback, is the third known quarterback commit for the Cru in the Class of 2022. A strong-armed passer who saw action in parts of 11 games as a senior, Gierat threw for 657 yards on 41 completions, with six touchdowns. Between his junior and senior seasons, his completion rate improved by 37.8%, a sign of his development as a quarterback. He held offers from the University of Puget Sound, and Southwestern in addition to UMHB.
Tyce Gentry

Commitment Date: March 3, 2022
Gentry, a 6’3, 170 lb shooting guard who averaged 20 points per game, is a solid scorer from all areas of the floor. He shoots from three-point range especially well, but in transition, can score well at the rim on fast-breaks. Gentry led Brock deep into the State Playoffs as a senior, as the team posted a 31-9 record, reaching the regional finals. He held offers from Wayland Baptist, Ottawa University, and Penn State Greater Allegheny before being offered by UMHB on Feb. 27, committing four days later.
Issac Phe

A tremendous passer, the 6’1 quarterback threw for 1,900 yards during his senior year in 2021, tossing 18 touchdown passes with just seven interceptions. Phe sees the field well, and has incredible strength that allows him to get the ball well downfield to an open receiver. With good agility, he avoids the opposing pass rush well and still completes passes for positive gains despite pressure in the backfield. He was also offered by Denison University, and earned his offer from UMHB on Feb. 8.
Karlee Hastings– DECOMMITTED

Commitment Date: Jan. 23, 2022
A 5’10 forward/guard, Hastings shoots the ball well from beyond the arc, and on Monday, was named a Second Team All-District selection at the 4A level. She helped Krum to a 27-13 record that included three playoff wins this past year as a junior, averaging 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. A superb defender, Hastings tallied 30-plus blocks in 2021-22, contesting every opposing shot in her vicinity. She took a visit to UMHB on Jan.8 and was offered by the Cru on January 10. She is a member of UMHB’s 2023 recruiting class.
Jaydon Gibbs

Gibbs, a 6’0, 275 lb defensive tackle, is a force in the middle of the defensive front. He gets into the backfield quickly, having tallied 35 total tackles and 21 solo tackles as a senior. Gibbs also recorded two sacks and eight quarterback hurries, helping Sachse to a 6-1 district record in 2021. He received offers from Avila University, McPherson College and Bethany College over the course of the fall.
Blair Neighbors

Neighbors, a linebacker and safety, is quick to the ball, but also phenomenal in pass coverage. Often matched up with an opposing halfback or tight end, Neighbors displays exceptional lateral quickness, and was a force for each of the last several seasons for Thrall’s defense. Neighbors was offered by UMHB on Feb. 14 and also had a walk-on opportunity at D-II Angelo State, as well as offers from Texas Lutheran, McPherson and Defiance College.
Doderick Peoples

Commitment Date: Feb. 22, 2022
A 5’10 cornerback, Peoples recorded 33 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions in 2021, thanks to his agility and footwork, which is especially seen in pass coverage, when matched up against the opponent’s near side receiver. He also showed the ability to blitz on a number of plays, shooting the outside gaps of the offensive line and getting to the quarterback. He returned kickoffs for Red Oak as a senior, often giving the offense solid field position. Peoples held offers from McPherson, Graceland University and Manchester University.
Brayden Babineaux

Babineaux, who starred at linebacker in high school, finished his senior season with a 100-plus total tackles, First Team All-District Honors and a First Team selection by the Orange Leader. He stands at 5’9, which may have reduced the recruiting interest from other programs, but UMHB has added a standout that played a key role in Orangefield reaching the playoffs this past fall. He shoots the gaps well on blitz plays, and has tremendous vision, avoiding blocks to make the tackle. He visited UMHB on Nov. 6.
Zach Veverka

Commitment Date: Feb. 2, 2022
Veverka, a talented outside linebacker, is a phenomenal pass rusher, who puts pressure on the quarterback and also has the strength to make a solo tackle in the backfield. He finds openings in the opposing offensive line, which is critical in his ability to stop the run, and get to the ball carrier. The district 4-4A D2 Defensive MVP, Veverka stands at 5’11, 210 lbs, and tallied seven sacks, 116 total tackles, four tackles for loss and two interceptions as a senior for Celina. The All-State honoree was offered by UMHB on Jan. 15.
Eli Craig

One of the first out-of-state commits for the Cru in this year’s class, Craig is a talented running back, standing at 5’10, 195 lbs. He runs a 4.41 40-yard dash, and that speed is seen on the field, where he combines great vision with agility, which results in consistent gains on the ground. Craig also has the ability to line up as a slot receiver and contribute to the passing game, adding to the versatility he brings to Belton. Craig also held offers from D-III power Mount Union, as well as Wisconsin Lutheran and Lyon College. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 13.
Andrew Wittnebert

A 6’4, 295 lb guard, Wittnebert is quick upon the snap and has a strong first step. His strength and 79-inch wingspan allow him to take opposing defensive tackles completely out of the play. Well-recruited by several programs, including Hardin-Simmons and Angelo State, Wittnebert will add to the depth of the newcomers on the offensive line.
Cameron Bibins

The starting running back at Canyon as a senior, Bibins was a First Team All-District honoree this past fall. Upon taking a handoff, the 5’8 standout is quick through an opening the offensive line, and a dynamic force out of the backfield with his agility. He also saw time at safety during his high school career, helping the defense to the 5A state playoffs as a junior. Bibins was well recruited by ASC program, as he was offered by Hardin-Simmons, Texas Lutheran, and Sul Ross State in addition to UMHB.
Alec Boyle

A 5’10, 175 lb safety and linebacker, Boyle is excellent in pass coverage. He reads the ball out of the quarterback’s hand well, and has the speed to make the necessary play, whether that be a pass breakup or an interception. He tallied three interceptions as a senior in 2021, and also tallied 5.4 tackles per game. Boyle drew offers from Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne. He was offered by the Cru on Feb. 10.
Quentin Curtis

The UMHB running backs unit was bolstered over the last several days, and Curtis is a huge addition to the recruiting class. He runs downhill out of the backfield, reads the blocks from his offensive linemen well, and seems to get the most yardage out of every carry. He averaged 5.1 yards per rush in 2021, with 12 touchdowns and four 100-plus yard performances. Curtis picked up opportunities from a number of quality NAIA schools, such as Tabor College and Benedictine, as well as Texas Lutheran and Millsaps at the D-III level. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 20.
Blake Fuller

Fuller, a 5’9, 170 lb running back and receiver, is dangerous out of the backfield. With incredible speed and agility, Fuller tallied 1,092 rushing yards as a senior in 2021, tallying 11 touchdowns and six 100-plus rushing yard games. He also caught 23 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns. He presents a number of matchup advantages for the offense, and is extremely hard to bring down. Fuller was offered by UMHB on Feb. 8.
Alex Bethke

The District 26-6A MVP in 2021, Bethke is a huge addition to the 2022 recruiting class. Also a First-Team All-State honoree at the forward position, Bethke is incredibly quick the ball, and also reads play well, knowing when to pass the ball or take the shot, both of which he has done at an exceptional level as one of the focal points of the Lake Travis attack. Just this past week, he had a pair of goals against Vandegrift, scoring from at least 15 yards out on both. He has helped lead Lake Travis to a 20-3 record this season. He will do his celebratory signing with UMHB later this month.
Ben Platt

Commitment Date: Feb. 21, 2022
A top-level midfielder on that Lake Travis squad, Platt is also a scoring weapon for the Cavaliers. He receives passes well and has a strong leg to complete the goal, able to place the ball in the corners of the frame. He has found the back of the net on several occasions on free kicks, and his speed up the field serves him well to score with defenders in quick pursuit. He will do his celebratory signing with UMHB later this month.
Jacob Alston

An Honorable Mention All-State honoree at the 4A level, Alston displays great footwork and a high football IQ. He primarily played tackle for Monahans this past year, and also saw action on defense at defensive end. He held 11 collegiate offers, including opportunities from D-III power Mount Union, as well as ASC rival Hardin-Simmons, Otterbein, Howard Payne, and Wayland Baptist.
Cameron Mitton

The fleet-footed 6’1, 200 lb running back and safety is a threat in multiple facets of the game. As a returner, he reads his blockers well, and his speed and agility allow for separation from the kicking unit as he sprints upfield. At running back, it is much of the same, as Mitton’s outside running ability creates numerous big gains on the ground. His ability to change direction on a dime is impressive, and that agility helps him on the defensive end as well. Mitton visited UMHB on Jan. 30.
Jonathan Diaz

A standout linebacker and running back who reads the opposing offensive backfields well, Diaz tallied 115 solo tackles in 15 games this season, 151 total, with 24.0 TFL. Those eye-popping stats are present in his offensive performances as well, with 66 carries for 1,112 yards as a senior. He tallied three 100+ yard rushing performances, with a total of 19 touchdowns in 2021. His hard-nosed running sticks out on film, as offensively, he runs downhill, reading his blockers, and defensively, he powers through the opposing offensive line to make the tackle in the backfield. Diaz also held offers from Wayland Baptist and Hardin-Simmons.
Kayden Baze

Baze originally committed to Hardin-Simmons, but the First Team All-State honorable mention honoree flipped his commitment to UMHB on signing day. A 6’1, 185 lb safety and linebacker, Baze is quick to the ball, and tallied 111 total tackles, 66 of which were solo, two interceptions and six pass deflections as a senior. Baze held offers from McMurry, Wayland Baptist, Graceland, Iowa Wesleyan, Texas Wesleyan and Hardin-Simmons, before committing to UMHB, who offered the Odessa native on Jan. 8.
Tyler Fussell

The first quarterback commit for the Cru in the Class of 2022, Fussell has quite an arm, throwing for 2,054 yards as a senior. On film against the blitz, Fussell has notable composure, stepping up in the pocket before finding the open receiver downfield. Agile and accurate, Fussell completed 60.8 percent of his passes in 2021, adding 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions. In fact, in his final high school regular season game, against Timber Creek, he set the new school record for passing yards in a game, throwing for 331 yards and four scores. He also held offers from Howard Payne, Hendrix and Carthage College.
Jacob Rose

Rose, a 6’3, 230 lb defensive end, is a hard-hitter, who comes off the edge with a great first step. He uses his footwork to get around the blocks of opposing offensive linemen, and was critical in Flour Bluff’s deep playoff run this past fall. In fact, he helped make the game-ending tackle on fourth-and-goal against Veterans Memorial to seal Flour Bluff’s first regional championship in program history. Rose is quick, but also has size, and can definitely make an early impact in Belton. He also held offers from Willamette, Texas Lutheran, Sul Ross State and Kilgore.
William Cornelson– DECOMMITTED

A defensive end and linebacker, Cornelson adds to UMHB’s incoming depth on defense, as the Vista Ridge standout was especially impressive in the pass rush this past fall. He recorded 39 total tackles, seven for loss, and tallied 12 quarterback hurries. At 6’3, 235 lbs, Cornelson was a key aspect of Vista Ridge’s defensive front for the last several seasons, winning the team’s Defensive Line MVP in 2021. A First Team All-District honoree, Cornelson made both a gameday and an official visit to UMHB, choosing the Cru over Saint John’s, Rose-Hulman, Hardin-Simmons, and others.

Isaiah Adams
Sport: Football
Hometown/High School: North Richland Hills, Texas/Richland High School
Commitment Date: Feb. 1, 2022
Adams, a defensive tackle, is a run-stopping force. He tallied 48 tackles this season, 15 solo, with 2.0 sacks, and made a tremendous impact for Richland’s defensive front. Adams was also a Second-Team All-District selection in 2021. The 6’1, 265 lb defensive tackle held offers from ETBU, McPherson, and D-II Upper Iowa University. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 15.
Octavio Jacquez

Commitment Date: Jan. 31, 2022
Jacquez, a goalkeeper, has already begun his senior year, recording 47 saves in six games. Last season, as a junior, he tallied 130 saves in 21 matches. Jacquez is quick on his feet, and reads the opposing midfielders and forwards well, which allows him to get in front of the opponent’s shots. The 6’2, 185 lb standout is also a captain on Pine Tree’s team, and was a 2021 Southeast All-American.
Ja’marcus Carprew

Commitment Date: Jan. 30, 2022
A 6’4, 245 lb defensive end, Carprew has size and agility that make him a force on the edge. He has excellent lateral footwork, and often finds his way into the opposing backfield, taking down the ballcarrier or putting pressure on the quarter. Carprew also held offers from ASC foe McMurry and East New Mexico University.
Skyler Robinson

Primarily a safety who also saw action at linebacker, Robinson is another added boost to UMHB’s secondary. He can blitz well, but in pass coverage is top-notch, with the ability to keep eyes on the quarterback as well as the opposing receiver and make the right play. He finished his senior year with 68 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 7.0 TFL. Robinson had offers from Texas Lutheran, Sul Ross State, North American, and Louisiana College. UMHB offered him on Jan. 12.
Brandon James

James, a standout left tackle for Ford HS, stands at 6’1, 280 lbs, and certainly can be a force on the UMHB offensive line in years to come. Playing in an option-based offense in high school, James’ run-blocking is fine-tuned, and he has an excellent first step upon the snap of the ball. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 6.

The Defensive Lineman of the Year, Hall is a force on the defensive line. At 6’3, 240 lbs, Hall played four years on the varsity squad at Caddo Mills His excellent lateral footwork is something that jumps out on film, as he works his way around blocks from opposing offensive linemen and finds his way to the ball carrier. Hall held offers from ASC programs ETBU, McMurry, Hardin-Simmons and Texas Lutheran before committing to UMHB.
Izaya Brooks

Brooks, a defensive back, stands out on film as a player with incredible footwork and hand-eye coordination. In deep coverage, matched up against some of the opponent’s top outside receivers, Brooks recorded 11 pass deflections as a senior, as well as 36 solo tackles. He is quick into the backfield on screens and shuffle plays, and also tallied two interceptions in 2021. A First Team All-District cornerback, Brooks also held an offer from Howard Payne. UMHB offered him on Jan. 26.
Dontroy Sterling

A middle linebacker, tight end, and fullback, Sterling is versatile on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he blocks extremely well and can be used in a variety of formations, due to his pass-catching and blocking ability. The fleet-footed 6’0, 184 lb standout also has good vision against the run as a linebacker, with a hard-hitting approach on both defense and kickoff coverage. He also played for La Vega’s 2018 team that won the 4A D1 State Title game, and has experience against high-quality opponents within the Lone Star State. He was offered by D-III power Mount Union and ASC foe Sul Ross State.
Stonewall Vernor

The name is fitting for the nose guard who is quite literally a stone wall for opposing offenses. Running backs are in for a long day when Vernor is on the other side of the line, as the 6’1, 270 lb lineman tallied 2.0 sacks, 31 total tackles and 16 solo tackles in 2021. With a quick first step, Venor is agile enough to get around opposing offensive lineman, but strong enough to push back the opposing center as well. He also held offers from Howard Payne, Hardin-Simmons and Southwestern.
Royce Green

A cornerback and running back, Green is able to play both sides of the ball. As a cornerback, he has excellent vision, reading the opposing quarterback even while he drops back in coverage. He tallied 16 solo tackles on a team that went 12-1 in 2021, and added an interception, which he returned for 30 yards, along with three pass deflections. At the running back position, Green, at 5’11, 165 lbs, averaged 2.4 yards per carry, with one touchdown. He was used in specific sets that Bellville ran, often near the red zone, and he runs through contact especially well. Green also held D-III offers from Albright College and Carthage College.
Cole Strickland

Strickland, a 6’0, 240 lb defensive lineman, stood out for Allen this past season as a senior. In 11 games, he tallied 11 solo tackles, 22 total tackles, a sack and two quarterback hurries. The film shows a player with great agility, who often sprints through the A-Gap (gap on offensive line between center and guard) to make tackles in the backfield. With that, he also has the ability to force the quarterback out of the pocket and plays a key role in the pass rush. Strickland’s shuttle top time is 4.35 seconds. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 13.
Joe Montez

Montez, a tackle/guard, adds depth to UMHB’s incoming offensive line group, which is now at four. A two time All-District standout, stands at 6’3, 297 lbs, and is incredibly strong. Always a force up front for Brennan, he started at both left and right tackle during his high school career, and a key part of his skill set is his speed upon the snap. With a solid first step, and quality footwork, Montez made it hard for opposing defensive linemen to get into the backfield. He also held offers from Hardin-Simmons, Texas Lutheran, New Mexico Highlands, Panhandle State, and others, before committing to UMHB. He was offered by the Cru on Jan. 4.
Kendreon Miller

A hard-hitting linebacker and edge rusher, Miller was a force for the Weiss defensive front the last three seasons. At 6’0, 225 lbs, he has an ability to get into the opposing backfield and bring down the ball carrier, also putting pressure on the quarterback on certain plays in which he blitzed from the edge. With high-quality awareness, Miller uses his hands and footwork to get around blocks and straight to the ball. He received an offer from UMHB on Jan. 11 and made a visit to Belton on Jan. 17. He also held offers from McPherson, Texas Lutheran, Wisconsin Lutheran, SAGU, and others.
Ethan Rayfield

A standout safety in District 28-6A, Rayfield has top-level speed and excellent vision when it comes to reading opposing quarterbacks. A First Team All-District selection as a senior, Rayfield was selected to compete at the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game in early January, and as a junior, was the top-ranked 2022 Central Texas defensive back by Prep Redzone. Standing at 6’0, 165 lbs, Rayfield tallied 43 solo tackles, 74 total, and four interceptions during the 2021 season, leading the Clark defense. He also held offers from Trinity, Kentucky Wesleyan, and LaGrange.
Kendle Arnold

Speed on the outside goes a long way, and Arnold’s athleticism from his outside linebacker position has allowed him to get into opposing backfields within seconds of the snap. He often lines up on the edge, and presents a force for opposing offensive lines to try to slow. Arnold hits hard, and has the strength to bring a ball carrier to the ground by himself. As a senior this past fall, he recorded eight solo tackles, 52 total, and added a sack. In pass coverage, he tallied three pass deflections. Arnold also held offers from ETBU, Hardin-Simmons and Northwestern Oklahoma, along with an offer from the Cru on Jan. 14.
Trent West

West will stay in his hometown to continue college, and is a huge commit for the Cru defense. A cornerback who stands at 6’2, 165 lbs, West tallied 33 solo tackles this past season as a senior, and added two interceptions along with a fumble recovery. He has phenomenal vision in deep coverage and tremendous speed that helps as a kick and punt returner as well. His play as a defensive back is impressive, though his play on special teams catches one’s eye, with incredible intensity and the ability to block opposing field goal attempts, and return a kick into opposing territory behind a few good blocks. West held a D-I offer from Texas Southern and D-II offers from West Texas A&M, Angelo State, and Midwestern State.
Austin Criswell

A key member of the offensive line on a team that won the state 4A-D1 championship a year ago, Criswell is a tackle who finishes his blocks and demonstrates impressive footwork. At 6’4, 275 lbs, his strength is a notable aspect of his skill set, as is his lateral movement, which makes him a challenge for even the best defensive linemen to get around. Criswell uses his hands well and his overall IQ on the field makes him a legitimate varsity candidate as a freshman. He had strong interest from the D-I FCS level, with offers from Texas A&M-Commerce, Incarnate Word and Valparaiso. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 19, and had both a home visit and campus visit prior to his commitment.
Troy Gaytan

Gaytan is a key addition to the Class of 2022 for the Crusader defensive front, as the 5’11, 255 lb defensive tackle is agile and quick to the ball, with more than enough strength to bring the ball carrier down. He saw action in 11 games this past season for Brennan, recording nine solo tackles, 20 total, with five for loss. Gaytan added a sack for a loss of six yards and a fumble recovery. Lined up directly across from the opposing center on most plays, Gaytan forces opposing quarterbacks outside the pocket and is key in stopping the run up the middle. He visited UMHB Jan. 17 of this year, and held other offers from Sul Ross State, Arizona Christian and others.
Christen Holt

Holt, a talented tackle who stands at 6’1, 305 lbs, is one of two offensive linemen to commit to UMHB on Sunday. He was also, to our knowledge, the first offensive player to commit to the Cru in the Class of 2022. A three-year varsity starter, Holt’s strength is seen on film as he was matched up with defensive ends and outside linebackers on most plays, and demonstrated great footwork while keeping those defenders away from the ball carrier. He also opens up running lanes extremely well, blocking to either the outside or the inside. Holt also held offers from SAGU and Mount Marty University. He was offered by UMHB on Jan. 14.

Joshua Queneau

Queneau, a 6’1, 255 lb Class of 2022 commit, held offers from Culver-Stockton College, Bethany College and Hardin-Simmons before committing to UMHB, joining a high-quality offensive line unit. A tackle and guard in high school, he has a phenomenal run blocking ability, often opening up lanes for Community’s running backs on the outside. Community runs the Slot T offense, a run-based formation, which gave Queneau ample opportunity to develop as a run blocker, especially on pull blocks, in which the guard shifts to the opposite side of the field upon the snap, and runs ahead of the running back. Queneau was offered by UMHB on Jan. 5, 2022.
Nick de las Alas

Commitment Date: Jan. 21, 2022
It did not take de las Alas long to make his college decision; less than 48 hours in fact. UMHB offered the kicker on Jan. 19, and yesterday, he announced his commitment. As a senior this past fall, he was 6/8 on field goal attempts and 133/135 on PATs, accounting for 81 total points, and was also named Academic All-State. He has a strong leg with good distance on his kicks, and that will only be added to at the collegiate level. He also held offers from D-III programs Tufts, Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne.
Erick Roberts

An infielder and right-handed pitcher in the Class of 2022, Roberts adds to head coach Mike Stawski’s recruiting class for next season in a big way. With quick hands at the plate, and notable speed (7.45 60-yard dash time), he is a force on the basepaths, and can also hit to all fields. In addition to his fastball as a pitcher, in the low-80 mph range, Roberts has an exceptional curveball.
Broedie Salas

A 6’0, 109 lb catcher/first baseman, Salas was a Second Team All-State selection as a junior. With a phenomenal arm behind the plate (max recorded velocity 88 mph) opposing base runners do not attempt many stolen bases against Salas, who demonstrates a quick pop time (time from ball hitting catcher’s glove to it arriving at second base). At the plate, he has plenty of power as a right-handed hitter.
Addison Self

Self, an All-District post player, has a tremendous ability to score in the paint, as well as rebound at a high rate. As a freshman, Self averaged a double-double at 16.9 points and 11.8 rebounds and has only grown in her role as one of the Wichita Falls area’s top high school players. UMHB offered Self, a Class of 2022 commit, on July 17, 2021.
Catalina Cortez

The point guard on a state semifinalist team as a junior, as well as a First-Team All-District honoree, Cortez displays excellent vision on the floor and a long-range shooting ability. She is quick enough to get around opposing defenders, but can also stop quickly and connect from mid-range. Cortez was offered by UMHB on Sept.4, 2021, and also held offers from D-II Angelo State and ASC foes Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.
Joseph Pendleton

Pendleton, a versatile player who played both sides of the ball at West, is a 6’1, 215 lb running back/tight end/defensive end/linebacker. He is the first known Class of 2022 commit for UMHB. A look at the film reveals a defender who, from the linebacker position, has great vision and an ability to get into the backfield on running plays, often taking down the ballcarrier before crossing the line of scrimmage. But his agility was also seen numerous times while dropping back in coverage, as he reads opposing quarterbacks well, while maintaining minimal distance to the receiver, which led to interceptions and pass breakups. Pendleton was also offered by Southwestern, Rose-Hulman, Grinnell, Hardin-Simmons at the D-III level. UMHB offered him on Jan. 14.
Bryce Farlander

Commitment Date: Dec. 13, 2021
Farlander, a 5’11, right-handed pitcher and middle infielder, throws his fastball in the mid-80s, and has a solid curveball and changeup as secondary pitches. Entering his senior year as a Class of 2022 commit, Farlander comes off a summer in which he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the WWBA Perfect Game Tournament in Georgia in July. In his first start of the 2021 season for Plano West, a 4-1 win over Highland Park, Farlander went 6.0 innings, striking out nine with just two hits and zero earned runs allowed.

As a high schooler, Soto was a standout for Lewsville, earning All-District honors as a senior, as he helped his team to a playoff berth, scoring a goal in the 63rd minute of the regular season finale.

A day after getting a non-conference win over Schreiner, the Cru picked up a win in the recruiting game, securing a commitment from Elizabeth Elder, in the Class of 2023. Elder is the first known commit for UMHB in the Class of 2023, as she is in her junior year at Crean High School. A 5’9 guard who shoots it well from the outside, Elder possesses incredible defensive skills, including an ability to stay in front of the ball handler in transition with excellent footwork. Last season at San Juan Hills High School, she averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. Elder also played for the Cal Storm 17U National Team in the summer on the AAU circuit.

Davis, a talented defensive back who played one year at Arkansas Baptist College, is set to join the Cru in January. The 6’0, 165 lb safety/cornerback played four games in the spring of 2021 for ABC, tallying 10-plus pass breakups and 20-plus tackles. On film, he demonstrates an excellent ability to cover on deep routes, and his footwork makes him hard for receivers to get past.
Shane Melick

UMHB head coach Mike Stawski has established a good recruiting base in Arizona,, securing commitments from pitchers Cayden Musgrove and Trace Laudenschlager last year, and now Melick, who is in the Class of 2022. A first baseman, outfielder, and right-handed pitcher, Melick is ranked as the fourth-best first baseman in the Class of 2022 coming out of Arizona by 2022 Prep Baseball Rankings. As a junior, he hit .304 in 16 games, with 11 runs scored and 18 RBI. He also had nine appearances as a pitcher, with a 5.09 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
Brookeyln Guerrero

Commitment Date: Dec. 18, 2021
Guerrero, an All-District selection in 2021, is the first known Class of 2023 commit for head coach Melissa Mojica’s program. Last spring, as a sophomore, she hit .390 in 27 games, with 33 RBI and two home runs, with 14 of her 32 hits going for extra bases. The infielder/catcher will join her club teammates Hannah McCallister and Bralyn Belk, both Class of 2022 commits, in Belton, and in October, she was ranked as one of top Class of 2023 utility players in the state of Texas by Lonestar Preps. Guerrero made her visit to UMHB on Sept. 21 of this year.
Cameron Bogan

Commitment Date: Dec. 10, 2021
Bogan, a transfer from Fort Scott Community College (Kansas) returns to his home state for his sophomore year. He carries four years of eligibility into the 2022 season, and, while an infielder by trade, Bogan will likely see time as a pitcher this season for the Crusaders. During his senior year of high school in 2020, which was cut short due to Covid-19, he hit .600 in five games, scoring three runs. On the mound, he fired seven innings over his final two high school seasons, posting a 4.00 ERA and a 1-0 record.
Ryleigh Sheehan

A 5’4 outfielder in the Class of 2022, Sheehan was named the MVP of District 18-4A this past spring. With tremendous speed and a great ability to track fly balls, Sheehan is a solid addition to UMHB head coach Melissa Mojica’s 2022 recruiting class. Her speed not only improves her value defensively, but also helps her to beat out throws on infield hits, something she did multiple times this past summer.
Bryton Wright

Wright, a 5’10 pitcher/first baseman, is a huge addition to UMHB’s 2022 recruiting class. A Texas Sports Writers Association All-State honoree as a junior last spring, Wright posted a 23-1 record in the circle with an impressive ERA of 0.29. In 442 batters faced, she struck out 237, and fired 120 innings with just five earned runs. At the plate, Wright hit .452 with six home runs and 29 RBI.
Bree Casey

Commitment Date: Oct. 6, 2021
For the second straight day, the Cru secured a commit in the Class of 2022. Casey, a 5’8 guard, is a sharpshooter who consistently connected on shots from behind the arc during her junior year and this past summer, averaging 20.6 points per game. She is also an aggressive defender who fits the style of guard play at UMHB. Casey was offered by head coach Mark Morefield on June 24 of this year.
Olivia Pedigo– DECOMMITTED

Pedigo is the sixth commit in Mark Morefield’s 2022 recruiting class. The 6’0 shooting guard/shooting forward will aim to get back on the court this season as a senior, having missed her junior year due to an ACL tear. She is a solid defender with great footwork who tallied several steals for Bells during the 2019-20 season, as the team posted an 11-1 district record.
Kacie Flanakin

Flanakin announced her verbal commitment back in February, and is the first known women’s soccer commit in the Class of 2022. A two-time All-District honoree, the forward has great ball control and precise accuracy when making passes. Flanakin is also a key contributor to Regents’ offense, finding the back of the net on numerous occasions during her junior year.

Kaia Halfmann

Halfmann, a setter in the Class of 2022, has gotten off to a solid start this season, beginning her senior year with 23 digs in 12 sets played. She has also tallied two kills and averages 4.0 assists per set. The 5’10 standout is in her second season on Tomball Memorial’s varsity roster. She is also the first known volleyball commit in the Class of 2022 (Savannah Johnson, below, committed three weeks later).
Savannah Johnson

Johnson’s verbal commitment was announced on Aug. 15, but it will be a good while before Johnson officially inks her decision to join the Cru, as she is only a junior. The 5’10 outside hitter has averaged 1.8 kills per set during her high school career, with a .203 hitting percentage. In a 3-0 sweep of Grace Academy on Aug. 10, Johnson tallied 10 kills and posted an impressive hitting percentage of .471.
Josie Bruder

Bruder, a 6’2 shooting guard/shooting forward in the Class of 2022, is the fourth commit in head coach Mark Morefield’s 2022 recruiting class. She plays well on the wing, but is versatile enough to post up and make plays in the paint. Bruder also does a good job of of following up her shot and shoots the three especially well from the corner.
Caitlin Harris

Harris adds depth to UMHB’s 2022 recruiting class, bringing an offensive presence as a shooting guard. This past season, she displayed pinpoint accuracy from three-point range, firing often from the wing. Her footwork also translated into several layups through opposing defenses as she uses the eurostep especially well. Her excellent crossover dribble also opens up her ability to drive to the lane.

Harris also displayed a tremendous ability to connect from three-point range offensively, as her highest percentage shot is from either corner, and she also drives to the lane with ease.

Blane Simmons

Simmons is a versatile player who can help the Cru in a variety of ways, as she has experience playing all three outfield positions, and the middle infield as well. A commit in the class of 2022, she is a force at the plate, showing a natural ability to hit to the opposite field as a left-handed hitter. Simmons has been on UMHB’s radar for quite a while, having attended the program’s winter camp in December of 2019.

The first UMHB commit in 2021, Floyd is a solid defender for D’Feeters Kicks Soccer Club. A junior this season, she has played a key role in the team’s 15 shutouts over the course of 25 matches and a No. 6 ranking in north Texas. Individually, Floyd has been included in the club’s Player of the Week three times this season. She is one of UMHB women’s soccer’s first commits in the class of 2022.
