The UMHB women’s basketball team clinched a spot in the ASC Tournament semifinals with Tuesday’s 78-64 win over Concordia in Belton.
LEXINGTON, Kentucky- The UMHB women’s basketball team has been here before. In fact, the previous two times the NCAA Tournament has been held, the Crusaders have reached the Round of 16. But those teams were different from this year’s squad in one way: experience.
Veteran-laden teams in 2019 and 2020, the Cru had multiple seniors coming off both the bench and in the starting lineup. That is not the case on this year’s squad, which is made up of several young standouts, and features just four players who played on the last tournament team in 2020.
LONGVIEW- The shots were not falling for either team on Monday night.
So the defense took center stage, and the UMHB women’s basketball team proved it can win in more ways than one, holding LeTourneau to just five fourth-quarter points for a 57-39 road victory.
BELTON, Texas- The UMHB women’s basketball team was shorthanded on Monday night, but that is where the unique depth of the Crusaders comes into play.
With leading rebounder Kaitlyn Kollmorgen and veteran guard Olivia Champion unavailable, head coach Mark Morefield turned to a number of talented, yet less-experienced players, as the team pulled out a 66-59 victory over Concordia (TX).
BELTON, Texas- With Christmas just five days away, the UMHB women’s basketball team added one more victory to its winning streak, defeating Schreiner 88-71 on Monday night.
ABILENE, Texas- Ashley Faux scored 14 points in the first half of UMHB’s 82-52 win over McMurry on Thursday night. But she did not stop there.
RICHARDSON, Texas- On Wednesday morning, the ASC released its Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll, and UMHB, the reigning conference tournament champion, was picked to finish fourth.
Before getting into the winners of our first-ever Player of the Year awards, it is important to note that each of these candidates was deserving of the honor, and that we have a high level of respect for each of them. It takes an entire team to win games as the Crusaders did this past season, and each and every one of them played a role in that success.
After a successful year that saw both programs rise to new heights, it is time to decide True To The Cru’s Players of the Year. The honors will be decided by both the fans and local media, with the fans making up 75 percent of the vote, and the media deciding 25 percent of the vote.
BELTON, Texas- A slow start offensively gave way to a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback for the UMHB women’s basketball team on Thursday night, as the Cru managed to defeat Sul Ross State 69-63 in Belton.
