BIG SPRING, Texas-UMHB men’s basketball alum Carson Hammond, who connected on multiple late-game shots for the Cru during this past spring’s NCAA Tournament, is the new assistant coach at Howard College.
After a week of voting, it is time to announce True To The Cru’s Basketball Players of the Year, which were voted on both by the media and the general public at the conclusion of phenomenal seasons for both the UMHB men’s and women’s basketball teams, who each went deep in the NCAA Tournament, making the tournament in the same year for the first time in school history.
BELTON- With 6:56 left to play in Saturday night’s second round NCAA Tournament duel with Trinity (TX), Ty Prince took three long strides then leapt off the floor, his right hand outstretched.
BELTON- For nearly every UMHB men’s basketball game played at the Mayborn Center over the last eight years, with the exception of a couple seasons, Jeff Hammond has sat in the same seat, directly across from the UMHB bench.
BELTON- Strong from short-range, the UMHB men’s basketball team won the rebounding battle, and the game itself Saturday afternoon.
The Cru, ranked No. 21 in the nation, defeated McMurry 93-75 at the Mayborn Campus in large part due to its 54 rebounds and 54 points in the paint, which paved the way to the team’s third consecutive victory.

After a successful year that saw both programs rise to new heights, it is time to decide True To The Cru’s Players of the Year. The honors will be decided by both the fans and local media, with the fans making up 75 percent of the vote, and the media deciding 25 percent of the vote.
