BELTON-Blake Arbogast has seen his East Texas Baptist team mature greatly over the course of this season. Earlier in the year, his squad may not have pulled out a win in a knock-down, drag-out road duel. The experience level was not necessarily there. But with just four weeks left in the regular season, the Tigers played with poise on Thursday night, taking down No. 22 UMHB in a back-and-forth battle, 67-61.
MARSHALL, Texas- 28 forced turnovers and 70 shooting attempts could not make up for 11 missed layups on Saturday afternoon for the 10th-ranked UMHB women’s basketball team. And that was Mark Morefield biggest critique of his team’s performance as he spoke postgame.
BELTON- The UMHB women’s basketball team had entered the fourth quarter trailing before. And the Cru had always found a way to come back and claim the victory.
But on Saturday afternoon, there was no fourth-quarter comeback. Instead there was a wake-up call, an “attention-getter”, as UMHB head coach Mark Morefield called it, as the 14th-ranked Crusaders struggled to score for the final three quarters and fell to No. 22 ETBU, 71-57, marking the team’s first loss since Nov. 26.
MARSHALL, Texas- The resiliency of the UMHB women’s basketball team was tested on Thursday night, and the Cru responded with near-perfect late-game execution.
With the clock ticking down against No. 14 ETBU, the Crusaders scored nine points in the span of the final 2:07 of the fourth quarter, sending the contest into overtime, and eventually winning, 72-70, on a short-range jumper from freshman guard Arieona Rosborough.
