MCMINNVILLE, Oregon — As the fourth quarter unfolded, it seemed the door had opened for a Linfield comeback. Then Da’marion Morris slammed the door shut.
Two fourth-quarter interceptions by the sophomore defensive back on critical Linfield drives helped seal UMHB’s 28-18 third-round playoff win on Saturday afternoon.
BELTON — In the first year of the 40 team playoff field, just two teams from the first round are preparing for a third-round game this week: Bethel (MN) and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
SPOKANE, Wash.-It was raining the day UMHB opened its season at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Nov. 8. The Crusaders had arrived in California no more than 24 hours before, and struggled in a 81-70 loss.
Fast forward six weeks.
BELTON- After playing a schedule that consisted of all but two of its opponents being from the Lone Star State last season, the UMHB men’s basketball team, fresh off an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, is venturing west twice as part of the 2022-2023 slate.
BELTON, Texas- It had been three weeks since Kyle King had thrown a touchdown pass. So he tossed six on Saturday.
The UMHB quarterback threw for 345 yards and broke the program’s single-game passing touchdown record as the Crusaders defeated Linfield 49-24 in the NCAA playoff quarterfinal matchup. It sets up a semifinal meeting between UMHB and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Dec. 11.
BELTON, Texas- It has been three seasons since UMHB last battled Linfield on the gridiron. And yet, a rivalry still remains between the two programs, who are separated by 2,007 miles, and have established themselves as the D-III powerhouses in the west over the last decade.
