In a rematch of last year’s first round playoff win for UMHB, the Crusaders and Trinity will meet in the second round for a highly-anticipated duel in San Antonio. We bring you UMHB’s two-deep depth chart, series notes, storylines to watch and much more in this week’s game preview presented by The Best of Belton.
BELTON- You would have to go back to 2015 to find the last time UMHB was sent on the road within the first two rounds of the playoffs. The last time the Crusaders played away from Belton in the second round, it was 2009.
BELTON- The last time UMHB men’s soccer took down Trinity in Belton, Ben Allen played 58 minutes in the 1-0 victory. On Friday night, he was on the field once again, this time as the program’s first-year assistant coach. And for the first time in 12 years, the Crusaders came up victorious against the Tigers, known for their consistency in the NCAA Tournament and status as one of the region’s power programs.
SAN ANTONIO- In the final non-conference game of the regular season, the UMHB baseball team went toe-to-toe with the nation’s No. 19 team on the road, but a late grand slam powered Trinity (TX) to a 7-3 victory on Tuesday night.
BELTON, Texas- Facing a fourth and one late in the final quarter, holding a 6-3 lead, UMHB head coach Pete Fredenburg had a decision to make. Take the conservative approach and send out the field goal unit, or leave the offense on the field and go for a game-sealing first down.
BELTON, Texas- The D-III playoffs have arrived for UMHB football, as the Crusaders look to begin the road to Canton, Ohio and the Stagg Bowl on Saturday.
BELTON, Texas- UMHB’s history against Trinity (TX) on the gridiron is extensive to say the least.
The two programs, separated by just 138 miles, have met on nine occasions. The Tigers were the first team UMHB ever faced, as the two squared off in San Antonio to begin the Cru’s inaugural season in 1998. That contest ended in a 37-14 loss for the Crusaders, as did the next three meetings, the later two of which were contested in the playoffs. UMHB’s first playoff opponent in program history was Trinity in 2001. And the Crusaders’ first playoff win came in 2004 against…you guessed it, Trinity.
BELTON, Texas- The UMHB football team will open the NCAA D-III playoffs by facing an in-state opponent on Nov. 20, as it was announced Sunday afternoon that the Cru’s first round matchup is against Trinity (TX).
BELTON, Texas- A lack of rebounds, 16 turnovers and lack of discipline defensively spelled the first loss of the season for the UMHB women’s basketball team on Sunday evening, as Trinity (TX) earned a 74-61 victory over the previously 1-0 Crusaders.
