Carson Horton | Quarterback | University of Tulsa (TRANSFER)
Horton transfers to UMHB from Tulsa, where he spent the 2024 season on the roster for the Golden Hurricane. He joined Tulsa’s program as a walk-on after originally playing at Oklahoma, joining the Sooners as a preferred walk-on in 2023. As a high school QB, Horton threw for 2,072 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior at Dayton (TX) high school, while running for over 500 more as he displayed his dual-threat skill set. Horton is the second QB transfer to publicly commit to UMHB since January, joining UTEP/Kilgore JC transfer Seth Mouser.
Thomas Stephens | Punter/Kicker | Lake Belton HS (Temple, Texas)
Stephens, who had offers from Lamar (D1), Texas Lutheran (D3), and Millsaps (D3) amongst others, is staying local to play for The Cru, and figures to make an impact in Belton. As Lake Belton’s punter, he averaged 40.5 yards/punt in 2024 with 90% directional accuracy. In his kicking role, he went 16-of-23 on field goal attempts, and was stellar in crunch time, with three game-winners during his senior season. He also averaged an impressive 63.8 yards/kickoff, a mark that would have led all ASC kickers last fall.
Mitchell George | WR | Wylie HS (Abilene, Texas)
George committed on March 7, having also picked up offers from Howard Payne, Sul Ross State, and William Penn University through the recruiting process. Standing at 6’3, 175 pounds, George had 27 receptions for 420 yards and six touchdowns as a senior at Wylie High.
Cameron Barnes | Defensive End | Spring HS (Spring, Texas)
Barnes was a force for Spring’s defense this past fall, registering 11 quarterback hurries, 15 solo tackles, and 11.0 tackles for loss in eight games. A 6’4, 240-pound lineman, also had collegiate opportunities from NAIA Arizona Christian and D3 Howard Payne before committing to UMHB on March 2.
Dawood Greer Jr | Offensive Lineman | North Crowley HS (Fort Worth, Texas)
Greer committed to The Cru on Feb. 26, and notably had an offer from Division I Mississippi Valley State as he went through the recruiting process. He played guard this past fall for North Crowley’s exceptional 16-0 6A state championship team, a squad that beat Westlake, 50-21, in the title game in Arlington. 11 players from that team signed with Division I programs and Greer contributed to the rushing attack, which tallied 56 touchdowns and 4,510 rushing yards in 2024.
JaQualon Armstrong | Running Back | Duncanville HS (Duncanville, Texas)
Armstrong rushed for rushed 758 yards on 119 carries as a senior this past fall, helping Duncanville to a 13-1 campaign and 7-0 district record. He tallied 13 touchdowns, including six over Duncanville’s final four games, all of which came in the 6A playoffs. Armstrong committed on Feb. 21.
Hayden Jackson | Defensive Back | Hays HS (Buda, Texas)
Jackson is the latest in a long line of Hays players to make the jump to UMHB, including recent defensive stars like Durand Hill and Dorien Hill. An All-District honoree as a senior this past fall, he made 29 total tackles, 16 solo, along with one interception for the Hawks (per MaxPreps). Jackson held a handful of college offers, including Texas Lutheran and Schreiner, in addition to UMHB. He committed on Jan. 26, 2025.
Joel Valdez | Quarterback/Linebacker | Cherokee HS (Cherokee, Texas)
Standing at 6’0, 190 pounds, Valdez is a versatile player who has experience contributing on both sides of the ball, having played at 1A Cherokee. As a senior, Valdez helped lead Cherokee to a 10-2 season and an appearance in the Area Round of the 1A D2 playoffs, capping a stellar prep career that also saw him quarterback the then-No. 3-ranked Indians to an enormous win over defending state champ Richland Springs as a sophomore in 2022. He committed to UMHB on Jan. 10, 2025.
Devon Freitag | Defensive End | Transfer from: UW-Platteville | Eisenhower HS (New Berlin, WI)
Freitag comes to UMHB with two years of eligibility remaining after opening his career in the WIAC, where he played the 2022 and 2024 seasons at Platteville. The 6’2, 273-pound defensive end saw the majority of his game reps as a true freshman, appearing in six games with 9.0 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. Freitag entered the transfer portal in late October 2024, and picked up offers from Hardin-Simmons and Missouri S&T, in addition to UMHB. Freitag committed on Dec. 27, 2024.
Seth Mouser | QB | Transfer from Kilgore/UETP | Bastrop HS (Bastrop, Texas)
A 2-star quarterback by 247Sports coming out of Bastrop, Mouser was ranked No. 160 amongst all QBs nationally in the Class of 2023. The 6’6, 210-pound signal caller tallied 4,298 yards in 28 high school games, throwing for 30 touchdowns, including 17 as a senior. He spent the 2023 season at UTEP before transferring to Kilgore Junior College. Mouser played in 10 games for Kilgore, completing 9-of-19 passes for 195 yards and 3 TDs. He committed to UMHB on Jan. 13.
Andy Toddeh | Running Back/Defensive Back | Hutto HS (Hutto, Texas)
Toddeh is a fleet-footed athlete, having clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds and an 11.4-second 100-meter dash. He played for a solid program at Hutto, and emerged as a key part of the offense, which also included Texas Tech signee Will Hammond at QB. Toddeh displayed his quickness a number of times out of the backfield, with sharp cuts and good vision as he piled up yardage.
Keilan Carver | Defensive Back | Montgomery HS (Montgomery, Texas)
A standout safety at Montgomery, Carver joins The Cru after tallying 48 solo tackles, 86 total tackles, 14 pass deflections, and two interceptions during his senior year. Listed at 5’11, 180 pounds on Hudl, Carver held numerous small-college offers, including ETBU, D2 Arkansas Tech, and NAIA Mount Marty.
Jack Bisson | Offensive Line | Austin HS (Austin, Texas)
A 6’1 center/guard who holds a 3.6 GPA, Bisson is a tremendous addition to the incoming class. His sheer strength off the line is immediately visible on film. His agility, starting with his quick first step and ability to move well laterally, will serve him well at the college level. As a high school junior, Bisson recorded a shot put PR last spring of 42 meters, 3.75 centimeters (roughly 138 feet).

Trevor Tamplin | Defensive End | Transfer from: Blinn College (JUCO)
Tamplin joins The Cru defense as a JUCO transfer, after tallying 5.5 tackles for loss and 11 total tackles during the 2024 season at Blinn. A Longview, Texas native, Tamplin also had interest from NAIA powerhouse Texas Wesleyan following his sophomore season at Blinn.
Quinton Hall | | Defensive Back | Transfer from: Henderson State (D2)
A native of Nevada, Texas, Hall spent the 2024 season on the roster at Henderson State before entering the transfer portal. Baseball
Ryan Rhea | LHP | TRANSFER from Johnson University (TN)
Rhea committed to UMHB on June 19, and comes to Belton with 3 years of eligibility remaining. The Waco native spent the 2025 season at Johnson, an accomplished NAIA program that went 36-18, where he made 13 appearances out of the bullpen. The southpaw tossed 16.2 innings, and struck out 10 with just four walks in that stretch, demonstrating his control of the strike zone. He also posted a 5.51 ERA, a mark he’ll look to lower in his first season in Belton. Rhea, who stands at 6’1, throws in the mid-to-high 80s with his 2-seam fastball and sinker, complemented by a changeup and splitter that makes his pitch arsenal dangerous in a relief/closer role.
Tony Ledesma | INF | Brennan High School (San Antonio, TX)
Ledesma, in the Class of 2025, committed to The Cru on March 2. A stellar hitter who primarily plays shortstop, Ledesma is a key senior on a Brennan team that comes off an appearance in the Area Round of the 6A playoffs last spring. He hit .232 with a .632 OPS last season, earning Honorable Mention All-District honors.
John Van Huis | OF | Transfer from: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Division I)
Van Huis is one of, if not the, biggest commitments secured by UMHB during Mike Stawski’s time at the helm of the program. Ranked by Perfect Game as the nation’s #500 overall player in the Class of 2024 coming out of Bridge City High School, Van Huis is a switch-hitter and athletic outfielder that should make an immediate impact for The Cru in the upcoming 2025 season. He is the second Division I transfer to join the program in the last two years (Abilene Christian’s Riley Bender being the first), and coming out of HS, was the #40 outfielder in Texas per Perfect Game, along with being slotted #177 amongst all recruits in the Lone Star State in the Class of 2024.
Ryland Anders | RHP | Bellaire HS (Bellaire, Texas)
Zachary Hampton | 1B/3B/RHP | Veterans Memorial HS (Corpus Christi, Texas)
Hampton committed to The Cru on Dec. 3. A 6-1, 185-pound high school senior, the Corpus Christi product put up a solid junior season last spring, hitting .423 in 86 plate appearances with 22 RBIs. He hit .526 in district play, earning First Team All-District honors as an infielder. Hampton also put up good numbers on the mound during the summer season with Texas Twelve Red Sox 2025, highlighted by multiple performance of 4+ strikeouts. (Link to X/Twitter post)
Joshua O’Malley | C | East View HS (Georgetown, TX)
O’Malley committed on Nov. 1 as he heads into his senior year at East View. A stellar catcher, he has been reliable behind the plate for the Patriots, with an ability to throw down to second base quickly. At the plate, he drives pitches deep to the outfield, showing the power in his swing.
Softball
Carli Wright | First Baseman | Bosqueville HS (Bosqueville, Texas)
Wright, the District 14-2A Co-Offensive MVP this past spring, made her commitment official in a signing ceremony on May 7. She was a key catalyst in Bosqueville’s district title and 21-7-2 overall record in 2025, which included an Area Round playoff appearance for the Bulldogs. In 24 games, Wright hit .429 with 35 RBIs and a team-high seven home runs.
Madison Mize | Outfielder | Klein Oak HS (Spring, Texas)
Men’s Basketball
Noah Curry | Wing | Temple College/Cypress Ranch HS (Houston, Texas)
Curry becomes the first commit since Sam Patterson was named head coach. The 6’5 wing from Houston spent the 2024-25 season on TC’s roster after a successful high school career in the always-difficult District 16-6A, where he was an All-District honoree at Cypress Ranch as a senior. He has versatility in his skill set, able to be a force inside as he was at Cypress Ranch, or spread the floor to create space for the offense to operate.
Jake Westbrook | Guard | Frankston HS (Frankston, Texas)
Westbrook earned his second District 19-2A Offensive MVP honor after guiding Frankston to a 23-13 season in 2024-25. As a senior, he averaged a double-double, with 18.0 points to go along with 10.0 rebounds per game and also averaged 7.0 assists per contest. Westbrook earned All-Region honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches in both his junior and senior seasons. He was offered by UMHB on March 4 and committed on March 27.
Women’s Basketball
Pierce Scheppler | Center | Lubbock HS (Lubbock, Texas)
For the second year in a row, Katie Novak-Lenoir has added a Lubbock native to the roster, and like Lubbock Cooper product Karlee Cronk, who averaged 5.0 PPG and 5.0 RPG as a freshman for UMHB, Scheppler should give The Cru depth in the post. The 6’2 center was ranked in the Top 150 of Jason Key’s Class of 2025 Texas recruit rankings in November (via Premier Basketball Report), and garnered offers from many of Texas’ top D3 programs, with UMHB being amongst the first to offer in June 2024. Scheppler was an honorable mention on the All-Lubbock team selected by HubCityPreps this past winter, as well as a District 3-5A honoree.
Natalie Galvan | Guard | Mumford HS (Mumford, Texas)
Galvan is a massive addition to UMHB’s 2025 recruiting class, coming to Belton after a prolific prep career for one of the top 2A programs in the Brazos Valley. Galvan was twice named District MVP, and this past winter, averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.9 steals per game, leading Mumford to a perfect 11-0 district record and a 24-6 overall mark. Galvan officially announced her commitment in a signing day ceremony at Mumford on April 9.
Megan Snow | Guard | Haltom HS (Haltom City, Texas)
Snow comes to Belton after a strong senior season in which she was named the District 8-6A Offensive Player of the Year, according to the Dallas Morning News. An outstanding guard who drives from the wing to the rim with clear intensity, Snow was a sparkplug for Haltom during her prep career, and reached the career 1,000-point mark in a game against South Grand Prairie on Jan. 14, 2025.
Allie Uzzell | Forward/Center | Flatonia HS (Flatonia, Texas)
Uzzell is a key component of one of the state’s strongest 2A teams, coached by UMHB alum Bethany McLeod. Flatonia has opened district play at 9-0, with a 22-4 overall start to Uzzell’s senior season. A standout post player, she will add to UMHB’s depth in the frontcourt, and in addition to her offer from UMHB, Uzzell also held offers from Southwestern, ETBU, and Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Abigail Smith | Forward | Rampart HS (Colorado Springs, CO)
Smith scored two goals in 14 matches as a junior last spring, contributing to Rampart’s 14-2 record and second-round appearance in the CHSAA state playoffs. She’ll be one of the Rams’ top returners this season, as Rampart looks to follow up on its strong run in 2024, in which they were slotted No. 4 in Class 5A in the final CHSAA regular season rankings.
Lily Owen | Midfielder | Tomball Memorial HS (Tomball, Texas)
Owen committed back on Oct. 13, 2024, after a junior season that saw her garner Second Team All-District 15-6A honors. Owen helped lead Tomball Memorial to an 18-4-2 season as a junior, as the Wildcats reached the UIL 6A Region 1 & 2 state semifinals. They were ranked 35th in the state of Texas by Maxpreps and 150th nationally. Owen is talented as a scorer and also distributes well within the offense, making smart passes to keep the ball moving upfield.

Cade Barone | Boerne, Texas
Barone comes to UMHB after playing for Texas A&M as part of the National Collegiate Club Golf Association, where he played in 10 total tournaments. He recorded a low round score of 65 with an average score per round of 71.5. Notably, Barone is ranked No. 12 in the country in the PGA’s NCCGA Spring 2025 Player Rankings and No. 3 in Texas, high marks in what is a very competitive circuit nationally.
