BELTON, Texas- Following a 60-25 rout of Louisiana College this past Saturday, True To The Cru’s Players of the Week have been announced, determined by votes from the fans.
On offense, Kyle King earned the Player of the Week honor for the third straight game, as the Milano, Texas native earned his first ever collegiate start. King was nothing short of impressive against the Wildcats, and led the Cru in a 6-play, 66-yard drive on UMHB’s first possession. King capped that possession by scoring on a 15-yard run to tie the score at seven, and went on to score five more touchdowns after that. He threw for 259 yards in the victory, tallying four passing touchdowns, and added 50 more rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, the vote was nearly unanimous in linebacker Jacob Mueller’s favor, as Mueller had several big plays for the Cru. With 6:08 in the second quarter, he intercepted a pass on Louisiana College’s 8-yard line, and raced into the end zone for the touchdown. It was the third game this season that the defense accounted for at least one of UMHB’s touchdowns. Mueller also recovered a fumble late in the third quarter around midfield, and tallied a team-high 10 tackles, five of those solo.
On special teams, there was a tight race, though KJ Miller earned his third Special Teams Player of the Week award this season, as he challenged Louisiana College every time the ball was punted in his direction. Miller returned three punts for a total of 81 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown return with 3:38 left in the opening quarter.
UMHB finishes its spring season with the ASC Championship Game against Hardin-Simmons on Saturday in Abilene at 1 p.m. CT.
