BELTON, Texas- The 2021 UMHB men’s basketball recruiting class has grown to 12, as Preston Tabor announced his commitment and decision to transfer to UMHB on Wednesday afternoon.
Tabor comes to Belton by way of North Lake College in Irving, Texas, where he spent one year, thought he began his college career at Div. II UT Permian-Basin.
The 6’0, 170 lb guard from Graford, Texas is a true playmaker, having finished his high school career with 2,148 points and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State honors in two seasons while starring at 1A Graford High School.
He opened his college career at UTPB, redshirting as a freshman during the 2019-20 season. On July 1, 2020, he announced his decision to transfer to North Lake College, where he played this past year.
At the JUCO level, Tabor saw action in 16 games, averaging 3.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. His lone double-digit scoring effort came against DC-Eastfield, as he tallied 10 points in the 71-69 loss. He shot 41 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range during the season. Tabor started seven games for North Lake, including the final three contests of the season.
There will be plenty of competition for playing time at the guard position this season, with leading scorer Josiah Johnson, and Carson Hammond both returning, as well as transfers Payton Brooks (Abilene Christian), Tyler Jarovik (UTPB), and Jacob Paske (Blinn JC) bringing tremendous talent to the backcourt.
Tabor is the seventh known transfer that UMHB has added to the program for this upcoming season.
