BELTON-The UMHB volleyball team is 3-0 to begin its 2022 season, as the Cru dominated on their home floor Thursday and Friday. They downed Howard Payne in three straight sets in both the season-opener and conference-opener for both squads, before coming back four hours later for a second win, this one coming over Schreiner with a 3-1 result. On Friday night, the Cru showed no signs of fatigue, sweeping Centenary in three straight sets, hitting for a percentage of .254. The tournament concluded on Saturday afternoon, as UMHB played its fourth match in three days. Though Hendrix grabbed an early lead, winning the opening set 25-17, UMHB responded with victories in the next three sets for a 3-1 win.
Freshman Katie Warden was spectacular in the first matches of her collegiate career, as the outside hitter tallied 49 kills over the four matches, including 15 in Friday’s win over Centenary and 19 less than 24 hours later against Hendrix. She averaged 3.1 points per set, and was one of four to start all four of the weekend’s matches.
McMurry transfer Kaylie Vasil was also outstanding in her debut with the Cru. An All-ASC honoree for the Warhawks in 2021, Vasil recorded 45 kills, also starting all four of the weekend’s matches. She hit for a percentage of .215, and added a pair of service aces as well.
