SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The UMHB women’s soccer team extended its undefeated record by a game on Friday afternoon against Our Lady of the Lake, pulling out a 3-1 victory to move to 3-0 on the year.
UMHB’s offensive attack did not take long to find its rhythm. Kelsey White found the back of the net for the Cru in the 29th minute, scoring on a free kick, and four minutes later, Kristen Burdick scored off of an assist from Yuliana Cruz. But UMHB was not finished. Freshman Abigail Hickman had a moment to remember in the 37th minute, as she recorded her first collegiate goal, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Neither squad scored in the second half until OLLU’s Ambree Rheinberger scored the Saints’ lone goal of the match, in the 79th minute.
UMHB tallied double the amount of shots that OLLU did, 12-6, and 10 of those 12 were on goal. Additionally, the Crusaders have now scored three goals in all three matches they have played this season.
Burdick and White are now tied for the team lead in goals, with two apiece this season. White led the Cru in shots against OLLU, with three, all of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Ainsley Westlake played just over 87 minutes in the match, tallying two saves with just one goal allowed.
Hickman, Westlake, Bayley Cox, Kacie Flanakin, Peyton Floyd, Laci Lopez, Malyn Martinson, and Ashlyn Wells all made their season debuts for UMHB on Friday.
