BELTON-UMHB head coach Ben Allen’s home debut was a victorious one on Saturday night, as the Crusaders narrowly defeated Our Lady of the Lake, 3-2.
UMHB found the back of the net early, as Ozarks transfer Daniel Lyon scored his first career goal for the Cru in the 21st minute, for a 1-0 lead. Just under three minutes later, Alex Bethke tallied his first collegiate goal, putting UMHB up 2-0.
That was the score at halftime, and OLLU improved its defense in the opening minutes of the second half. But in the 64th minute, Lyon scored again, making it 3-0. And while OLLU had a late counter, with two goals between the 77th and 80th minutes, the Crusader defense did not allow the Saints to get into position for a potential game-tying shot over the final 10 minutes.
The victory moves the Cru to 2-1 overall this season.
