4 UMHB women’s golfers earn ASC postseason honors following 5th place finish at ASC Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas- Following a fifth place finish in the ASC Tournament on Sunday afternoon, the UMHB women’s golf team was represented by four of its student-athletes, two of whom were on the First Team, in Monday’s postseason conference awards. 

Sarah Kmiecik led the way as a First Team honoree, as she carded a 74 (+2) in the final round of the conference tournament, finishing in third place on the player leaderboard, while leading the tournament in birdies. The junior was UMHB’s top individual finisher at the tournament, and had four top-five finishes this season. 

Joining her on the ASC’s First Team was sophomore Avery Hill, who averaged 78.58 over 19 rounds, and tallied a pair of top-10 finishes on the season. Hill tied for 16th place at the ASC Tournament, with a +24. 

Lily Self concluded her collegiate career with the notable ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year award, and was a key part of UMHB’s lineup, having played in all eight of the Cru’s tournaments this season. The native of Bristol, Tennessee 

Sydney McConnell, the 2021 ASC champion, was named to the Second Team following her senior season. The Tyler, Texas product tallied a pair of top-five finishes, averaging a scoring average of 79.47.

At the ASC Tournament in Granbury, Texas–on the same course where UMHB placed second in October’s ASC Preview–UMHB shot a 322 in the opening round, entering the second day of competition in fourth place. A strong day from Concordia (TX) in the second round jumped the Tornadoes from fifth to third, while UMHB remained tied for fourth with LeTourneau, carding a 318. A team score of 319 in Sunday’s final round of play was a mere one stroke behind LETU, landing the Cru in fifth. UMHB’s 319 on Sunday was third-best in the field, one stroke away from a four-way tie for second-best team score on the day, as UC-Santa Cruz and Concordia also carded scores of 318.
