DALLAS-Former UMHB women’s basketball head coach Mark Morefield has been tabbed to lead the Dallas Christian College women’s basketball program, per a press release from DCC

Morefield spent eight seasons at the helm of the UMHB program, assembling a record of 159-50 while leading the Crusaders to a trio of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

“We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Mark Morefield to lead our WBB program,” DCC Director of Athletics Gregg Mucerino said in the release. “He comes to us with an extensive and accomplished coaching background. Coach Morefield’s time under Baylor HC Scott Drew and Valparaiso HC Homer Drew have well prepared him to be an extremely successful HC with a 779 winning [percentage].

“I eagerly await the genuine and thorough program building skills Coach Morefield will bring to DCC and more excited about his 1 Corinthians 9:24 focus to strive for the crowns with dedication to lead spiritually as he rebuilds and commits our program to Jesus!”

Also quoted in the press release, Morefield expressed enthusiasm as he prepares to lead a collegiate program as head coach for the second time in his career.

“I would like to thank Mr. Mucerino, Dr. Dunbar, and Dr. Smith for this opportunity to be a part of the Dallas Christian College family and to lead the women’s basketball program,” said Morefield. “Dallas Christian College is in exciting times with its vision to help young adults grow and be prepared for life.  Our women’s basketball program wants to be a part of that growth and bring a sense of excitement to Dallas Christian College.”

Morefield’s time in Belton ended abruptly after his dismissal as the result of an November incident in which he used expletives while addressing the team out of frustration, explaining why a player’s season-ending injury should not have occurred. The injury came about after one player rolled up under another in a rebounding drill.

A 65-57 win over Concordia (TX) on Jan. 21 was Morefield’s final game as head coach. Kendra Foreman, who was announced as the associate head coach at Howard Payne on April 28, served the remainder of the season as interim head coach.

DCC, a member of the National Christian Collegiate Athletics Association (NCCAA), posted a 6-18 record in 2022-23, and went 2-1 against NCCAA opponents.
