PHOTOS: UMHB Softball NCAA Tournament Regionals

Belton, Tx- The UMHB Softball Team was victorious three times and then defeated twice in the Belton Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The CRU had two home runs Saturday leading to three runs, as they won 8-7. UMHB’s final game of the season came against Berry College on Saturday afternoon

BELTON- One look at the ASC softball standings and something becomes clear: there is a tremendous amount of parity within the conference. Four teams; Belhaven, ETBU, Hardin-Simmons, and UMHB, sit within two games of each other, and UT-Dallas and Sul Ross State, each riding multi-game win streaks, are not far behind.

BELTON- The UMHB softball team began its 2022 season on Sunday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with Southwestern (TX) at Belton’s Dee Dillon Field.

The Cru took game one, edging the Pirates 2-1, behind five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Bayleigh Grogan. Grogan allowed just three hits and struck out three, while Elisabeth Paul paced UMHB at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Game two was pushed into extra innings, with the score knotted at zero, before Southwestern scored four runs in the top of the eighth. A Taylor Holman RBI single in the bottom of the inning brough Elissa Elliott across the plate, but the visiting Pirates held on for the win.

UMHB travels to Hardin-Simmons for a three-game series this weekend, beginning on Friday.

BELTON- Melissa Mojica is incredibly confident in her pitching staff entering the 2022 season, which will begin Saturday afternoon in Houston. And the second-year head coach has good reason to be.
