TRUE TO THE CRU PODCAST: Kyle Shipp on the power of community and passion for UMHB

Kyle Shipp has been around the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a variety of roles throughout his life, dating back to the days when his father, Ben Shipp, was in his first stint as head baseball coach. As UMHB supporter Toby Taff said on X/Twitter last week, “If anyone qualifies as ‘Super CRU’, it’s Kyle.” That isn’t an understatement.

After growing up on campus, he attended UMHB, where he lettered in four seasons on the baseball team as a catcher. As a senior in the spring of 2007, he earned the honor of UMHB Male Senior Athlete of the Year, and was also a three-time All-ASC Academic selection.

While at UMHB, he decided that he would pursue coaching following graduation. A handful of years later, after beginning his collegiate coaching career at Southwestern University, he returned to Belton on two occasions as an assistant coach. His last stint came as the pitching coach in 2017-2018. Currently, Kyle works in a variety of roles, leading UMHB’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes as an ambassador as well as working as the discipleship minister at Taylor’s Valley Baptist Church. Additionally, he founded Faithfully Fit, a featured sponsor of today’s episode, and has found his way into broadcasting, where he worked as the play-by-play voice for UMHB Acrobatics & Tumbling, Baseball, and Softball this past spring.

Within all of that is an inspiring testimony of faith, resilience and community that has played a major role in the infectious enthusiasm that Kyle exudes whether you’re talking with him in person or listening to him call a UMHB sporting event.

Please give this episode a listen and enjoy what this great conversation has to offer. Tune in next week as Riley Zayas sits down with UMHB record-holder and CRU Football alum Wykeyhe Walker for a conversation about hard work, the tradition of UMHB football, and the 2016 Stagg Bowl team.
