A look at UMHB alum Josiah Johnson’s stats through his first 3 games in Denmark’s pro league

HOLBAEK, Denmark — After an exceptional career at UMHB, where he left as the program’s all-time leading scorer and the first three-time All-American since Robert Moore in 2002, Josiah Johnson’s first three games as a pro have been nothing short of spectacular.

A starting guard for EBS Holbaek-Stenhus in Denmark, he is averaging 34.0 minutes/game, and has made good use of his time on the floor. Johnson is averaging a double-double with 25.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, all while shooting 57.7% from the field. He is also averaging 2.3 assists per game.

His stat totals gain added weight when it is considered that Johnson has currently accounted for 30% of Holbaek-Stenhus’ points per game and 53.8% of the team’s made free throws. He has also contributed 25.2% of the offensive rebounds, 28.9% of the defensive rebounds, and 23.3% of the steals.

His high-scoring ability, which was seen countless times in big moments for The Cru, was put on full display in Holbaek-Stenhus’ first victory of the season last Friday over Amager. Johnson put up 40 points in the 106-98 win, shooting 17-of-21 at the free throw line and 10-of-16 from the field in a season-high performance. It was the D-III duo that led Holbaek-Stenhus to victory, as Cal Lutheran alum Patrick Renane also contributed significantly with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Johnson earned Eurobasket’s Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for Round 3 of the Danish BasketLigaen after that performance. He is currently third in the league in points per game and fourth in rebounds per game.

The Big Sandy, Texas native is one of two former Crusaders to be playing professionally in 2024.  Ty Prince wrapped up his season in May with Frayles, a team in the Mexican league CIBACOPA, and averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in 24 contests.

Johnson and Holbaek-Stenhus return to the court on Saturday, facing Bears Academy Aarhus. Holbaek is currently sixth in the 11-team league standings with a 1-2 record.
