BELTON — Barrett Hudson, who ran for 1,372 yards in his first two seasons at Austin College and was the 2024 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, announced his commitment to UMHB Football on Monday morning in a post on X/Twitter.
Hudson entered the transfer portal on Nov. 20, following a sophomore season with the ‘Roos in which he rushed for 413 yards on 92 carries in seven games. Despite missing three contests, the 5’8, 190-pound running back led AC in rushing touchdowns, crossing the goal line four times. He ran for 80-plus yards three different times, going for 83 against Rhodes, 106 in AC’s home finale against Lyon, and 89 the following week in a 20-10 win at Centenary.
His 2025 performance came on the heels of a memorable freshman campaign in which he averaged 95.9 rush yards per game. Hudson had six rushing TDs as AC’s primary ballcarrier, including three in a career-high 240-yard performance at Lyon on Oct. 12, 2024. That included a 75-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a pair of 71-yard touchdown carries in the second half, with Hudson named to D3football.com’s Team of the Week for his efforts.
The Katy, Texas native closed 2024 as a First Team All-SCAC honoree in addition to earning the league’s newcomer of the year honor. He led the SCAC in total rushing output with 959 yards, making him only the fourth freshman in the SCAC’s 56-year football history to rank No. 1 in that category, and the first since 2004.
Hudson had 1,154 all-purpose yards in 2024, catching 10 passes out of the backfield for 68 yards in addition to returning five kickoffs for 127 yards. He was No. 2 in the SCAC in all-purpose yardage behind Centenary’s Kobe Chambers, who transferred to ETBU ahead of the 2025 season.
He played his high school football at Seven Lakes HS near Houston, running for 742 yards on 133 carries as a senior in 2023. That season saw Hudson put up three 100-yard rushing games, as he averaged 92.8 yards per contest. Per MaxPreps, Hudson rushed for 1,965 yards over three varsity seasons at Seven Lakes.
