Offensive Player of the Week: Tommy Bowden

BELTON, Texas- In his first ever collegiate start, UMHB quarterback Tommy Bowden played like a veteran.

The sophomore signal caller led the Cru in a 41-0 rout of Belhaven on Saturday, as the spring season got underway, and for his efforts, Bowden is True To The Cru’s Offensive Player of the Week.

On his way to accumulating four touchdowns, Bowden ran the ball 10 times for a total of 86 yards, and completed 11 of 23 passes for 104 yards.

In one of his outstanding plays, he zig-zagged through the Blazer defense, finding the end zone on a 38 yard run. Belhaven nearly tackled him at the 30 yard line, but Bowden kept his feet moving, avoided being brought to the ground, and sprinted for the touchdown, which marked UMHB’s first points of the season.

“I thought Tommy did a great job,” said head coach Pete Fredenburg of Bowden’s performance on Saturday. “He gives such a presence, and he is so fast, and he’s so dedicated, he is the epitome of what you would want in a quarterback.”

Bowden was also named the ASC’s East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Bowden and the Cru return to action after a bye week, facing Louisiana College in Belton at 12 p.m. CT on February 20th.
