2021 UMHB football schedule released

BELTON, Texas- On Wednesday morning, the UMHB football team announced its 2021 schedule, which features 10 games, nine of those being conference games.

The season opens on September 4 in Belton, as Simpson College battles the Cru at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Storm is a member of the American Rivers Conference conference, and posted a 0-1 record during the abbreviated spring season. Just three games were on the schedule, one of which was a scrimmage and the other of which was cancelled.

Conference play kicks off on September 11, as UMHB hosts ETBU under the lights at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Tigers and Cru played on March 6 in Marshall, Texas, in a game that UMHB won 30-28 behind a late field goal from kicker Anthony Avila. ETBU finished the spring with a 3-2 record.

A short road trip down IH-35 follows, as UMHB travels to Georgetown to face Southwestern on September 18. That contest will kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT. UMHB defeated the Pirates 52-7 on February 27. Southwestern posted a 0-5 record during the spring schedule.

The biggest regular season of the game is set for the following Saturday, as rival Hardin-Simmons faces UMHB in Belton at 6:00 p.m. CT. The two opponents battled in the first true ASC Championship game on March 27, with UMHB winning 23-15. HSU went 4-1 during the spring season.

A road trip to Sherman, Texas follows on October 2, as Austin College hosts UMHB at 1:00 p.m. CT. Austin College will be in its first season as a football-only member of the ASC, having previously competed in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). The ‘Roos went 1-3 during the spring, their only win coming over Millsaps.

Texas Lutheran comes to Belton after a bye week for an October 16 showdown. It will be the first day game at Crusader Stadium during the fall, with a 1:00 p.m. CT kickoff. TLU is also a football-only member of the ASC and last played UMHB in 2019, when the Cru won 41-3 on senior day.

A road trip west to Sul Ross State follows on October 23 with a 1:00 p.m. CT kickoff. SRSU went just 1-4 during the abbreviated spring campaign. The last time the two met was in 2019, when the Cru won 77-14 in Alpine.

A home duel against Belhaven is set for October 30 at 12 p.m. CT. UMHB opened the spring season on the road at Belhaven, and won handily 41-0. Belhaven went 3-2 during the spring.

The home finale follows on November 6, as Howard Payne journeys to Belton. The Yellow Jackets posted a 2-3 record this spring. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CT.

The regular season finale comes with a road trip to Abilene on November 13 to face McMurry. McMurry was also 2-3 during the spring. Kickoff will be at 1:00 p.m. CT.

NCAA playoff dates have not yet been set.
