BELTON, Texas- UMHB golfer Annie Hasselbach and football player Steven Sellers received one of the American Southwest Conference’s highest honors on Friday, as each earned an ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor.

According to a press release from the UMHB Athletics Department, the honor “is presented to one male and one female member of the graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics and leadership over their collegiate career.”

That certainly describes both Hasselbach and Sellers, who stood out as leaders both as athletes and students throughout their collegiate careers.

Hasselbach spent four years as a member of the Crusader women’s golf team, earning Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Athlete honors on four occasions. She posted a stroke average of 83.50 this season, and highlighted her senior year by claiming individual medalist honors at the ETBU Invitational on October 13. During her time with the Cru, the Rockdale, Texas native played in the Div. III National Championship twice, and was a part of two ASC title teams. She graduated in May with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a 4.00 GPA.

Sellers was the starting center for the Cru for three seasons, earning All-American honors in 2019. He led the Cru offensive line as a two-time ASC Offensive Lineman of the Year, which was a key component in UMHB ranking fourth in the league in rushing yards during both the 2019 and 2020-21 seasons. During his career, Sellers also was a member of the Cru’s Unity Council and a two-time Academic All-American. Along with wide receiver Kadarius Daniels, he was named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society on April 14. The Murphy, Texas native graduated with a double major in management and economics, having posted a 4.00 GPA.
