BELTON, Texas- Six members of the UMHB football team were recognized by D3football.com on Monday, as the website released its All-Region and All-America teams for the 2020-21 season.

Jefferson Fritz highlighted UMHB’s honorees, as the senior was named a First-Team All-American at both the safety and punter positions. He recorded 28 total tackles during the spring season, with a team-high three interceptions. At punter, he averaged 43.3 yards per punt, with his longest punt being 68 yards. The honors continue to roll in for Fritz, who was also the ASC’s Defensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference selection.

Fritz was not the only All-American from UMHB, as linebacker Akeem Jackson was also selected to the First-Team. Jackson was second on the team in tackles with 40, and added an impressive 10.5 tackles for loss. A First-Team All-Conference honoree, Jackson was one of just three Crusaders to tally an interception and a sack during the five-game season.

On offense, center Steven Sellers was selected as a First-Team All-American, having been named the conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second consecutive season. UMHB’s only starter on offense from the ASC Championship game who will not return for the 2021 season, Sellers leaves behind a major hole in the offensive line. He graduated in May with a double major and a 4.0 GPA .

Jeffery Sims Jr. and Mikkah Hackett both found their names on the All-America Second-Team. Sims Jr. helped to lead the strong offensive line that played a major role in UMHB ranking fourth in the ASC in total yards of offense. Hackett led the Cru in total tackles with 46.

Receiver KJ Miller, who was our Special Teams Player of the Year, was selected to the All-Region Team as a return specialist. He averaged 17.7 yards per punt return and 22.5 yards per kickoff return, tallying a touchdown on a 52-yard return in a 60-25 victory over Louisiana College on March 20.

The UMHB football team won its 16th ASC title after a 5-0 spring campaign, and opens the 2021 fall slate in a home non-conference duel against Simpson College on September 4.
