BELTON- A late transfer addition to the group of offensive newcomers for the UMHB football team was announced on Friday afternoon, as JUCO product Andre Mitchell made his commitment official.
The wide receiver, a native of San Antonio, comes to Belton by way of Contra Costa College in San Pablo, California, where he saw significant action as a true freshman a year ago. In his lone season as a Comet, the 5’10, 170 lb Mitchell saw the field in nine games, contributing significantly to the offensive success while also flashing his speed in the return game.
Primarily a running back for CCC, he ranked second on the team in rushing yards (256), carrying the ball 69 times for an average of 3.7 yards per attempt. Mitchell added a touchdown on the ground, in addition to his receiving score. He added eight receptions for 77 yards. As a kick returner, his agility was displayed as he recorded six returns for 240 yards, outracing the opposition for a 96-yard touchdown in an Oct. 23 43-14 win over Foothill College.
As a high schooler, Mitchell starred for Southwest High School, earning a spot in the San Antonio High School All-Star game in January 2021. During his senior year, he powered the SHS offense, racking 1,555 yards on the ground on 242 carries. In six games, he rushed for over 100 yards, and tallied 17 touchdowns. Additionally, Mitchell was a dynamic threat in the passing game, turning 15 catches into 239 yards and three touchdowns.
Mitchell’s skill set and prior collegiate experience is a major plus for a wide receivers room that already includes several potential all-conference pass catchers. With his time at running back, there is always the possibility that he sees playing time there as well.
UMHB now has eight transfers set to join the Cru this fall, with Jacen Foster (OL, Crown College), Jarryd Doucet (OL, Concordia-Neb.), and Will McClintock (TE, Missouri Western State) set to join the offense.
can’t wait for the season to start…….
