BELTON- Ozias Wright admired UMHB from afar for quite some time prior to his commitment in late April. A Killeen native, the running back earned an offer from the Crusaders out of Shoemaker High School in 2019. While an opportunity to join The Cru did not lend itself to Wright at that point in time, he always remembered the hospitality shown to him by the UMHB coaching staff, particularly Jack Johnson, now the program’s defensive coordinator.
After embracing change through his time at Shoemaker, adjusting to multiple brand-new coaching staffs, Wright headed west to ASC foe Sul Ross State, where he earned All-Conference recognition in both the 2020-21 and 2021 seasons. He totaled 1,230 yards on the ground while with the Lobos, and is set to join The Cru for the 2023 campaign, adding depth to UMHB’s rushing attack.
True To The Cru’s Riley Zayas spoke with Wright recently about his football journey up to this point in another edition of “Catching up with the Commits”.
