Durand Hill headlined the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas Preseason Non-FBS Team when it was announced Tuesday morning. The linebacker is anticipated to be in for a huge season after tallying 71 solo tackles in 14 games last season, and was selected by DCTF as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
A native of Buda, Texas, Hill led The Cru in 2022 in solo tackles (71), total tackles (124), and was one of three players to have a team-high two interceptions. He finished the season tied for third in the ASC in tackles per game (8.9).Â
The DCTF All-Texas Preseason Non-FBS Team included players from the FCS, D-II, D-III, and NAIA ranks. The following ASC players were also recognized: Miguel Valdez (OL, Hardin-Simmons), Kane Strohman (DL, McMurry), and Quincy Blair (DB, Sul Ross State). Trinity (TX) quarterback Tucker Horn, who will face UMHB in Week 2, was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Editor’s Note: Though Pete Smith was listed on the Preseason All-Texas Non-FBS Defensive team, True To The Cru confirmed that Smith used his eligibility and therefore will not be on the 2023 roster.
