BELTON—After defeating third-ranked UW-Whitewater on Saturday and ascending to the No. 14 ranking in the D3football.com Top 25, UMHB Football will have to wait an extra week before it steps back onto the field. Saturday’s scheduled game at Crusader Stadium against unaffiliated John Melvin University has been canceled as a result of JMU not having enough available players to compete.

True To The Cru learned of the news on Tuesday afternoon, as an announcement from the UMHB Athletics Department confirmed that Saturday’s 1 p.m. game will not be played.

“The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football game against John Melvin University originally scheduled for Saturday, September 28th has been canceled due to a lack of available JMU athletes and safety concerns,” read the press release.

The Millers are 0-4 this season, with losses to NAIA Arkansas Baptist (26-6), Community Christian College (36-13), D3 Millsaps (46-0), and Westgate Christian (55-14). JMU is in its second season of varsity football.

UMHB continues its 2024 season on Oct. 5 in Belton, hosting ETBU to open the double round-robin conference schedule. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 1 p.m. ETBU currently holds a 2-0 overall record with wins over LaGrange and Hendrix.
