BELTON — Barry Elkins reached an exceptional milestone on Saturday night.
As the UMHB women’s soccer team improved to 3-1 in ASC play in a 2-0 shutout of ETBU—The Cru’s third straight clean sheet in conference play—Elkins earned his 400th career victory as a head coach.
The record combines his win totals from 13 years leading Belton High’s girls soccer program and the 13 seasons he has spent at the helm of the UMHB program.
Elkins posted a 243-63-29 record at Belton, leading the Lady Tigers to 10 district titles and 13 consecutive playoff appearances. Since taking over the women’s team at his alma mater in 2012, he has found even more success, leading UMHB to its first three NCAA Tournament appearances, its first ASC Tournament title, and back-to-back ASC regular season titles in 2022 and 2023.
Prior to Elkins’ hiring at UMHB, the Crusaders had recorded just three seasons with an overall record above .500. Since his second season in 2013, The Cru has never finished with a winning percentage lower than .619, with eight consecutive seasons of 10 or more victories from 2015-2023.
In the process, Elkins has become the program’s career wins leader, with a record of 157-49-19. He is the only coach in program history to have an overall record above .500 and is also the longest-tenured coach UMHB women’s soccer has ever had. No active head coach in UMHB’s athletic department currently has more wins with The Cru than Elkins.
This marks the second notable wins milestone this season for Elkins, who won his 150th game at UMHB in the 1-0 shutout of Concordia on Sept. 2.
UMHB is 9-2-1 overall this season. The Cru is 6-0 at home and has won or tied 24 consecutive matches in Belton, dating back to a 4-1 win over Concordia on Oct. 29, 2021.
