ABILENE, Texas- The UMHB women’s soccer team came ever so close to finally notching its first victory over Hardin-Simmons in the ASC women’s soccer championship on Sunday afternoon. Two placekicks close.

It took the entire team to make a second-half comeback in Saturday’s 34-28 victory over ASC rival Hardin-Simmons. However, a few players in particular stood out, allowing UMHB to score 27 unanswered and claim the marquee win.

BELTON, Texas- The last time UMHB and Hardin-Simmons faced off at Crusader Stadium, it took a late field goal from Anthony Avila to win the game for the Cru. On Saturday night, the No. 2 Crusaders needed another heroic feat just as badly.
And they found their hero with less than 30 seconds to play, as defensive back Jayden Smith made the play of the game, intercepting a pass at the UMHB two-yard line to end Hardin-Simmons’ final drive and hand the Crusaders an improbable 34-28 victory.
