Former UMHB quarterback Blake Jackson signed by Winnipeg Blue Bombers for 2022

WINNIPEG,MB.- Former UMHB quarterback Blake Jackson is back on a CFL roster, as it was announced Thursday morning that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed the 27-year old wide receiver for the 2022 season.

Jackson, who led the Cru to its first national title in 2016, was enjoying a promising start to the 2021 season with Winnipeg, with several spectacular days in training camp, before a torn Achilles sidelined him for the remainder of the year.

The Houston native began his professional career with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns in 2018, catching a touchdown pass in a preseason contest against the Detroit Lions. He spent parts of the year on the roster, and also suited up for the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks in 2020, before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19. During the brief season, he caught five passes for 50 yards and one touchdown. In 2018, Jackson also attended the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders training camp.

At UMHB, Jackson tallied 49 touchdowns and 4,311 yards on his way to the ASC’s Offensive Player of the Year award as a senior. He also garnered All-American honors following that season in which UMHB claimed the Stagg Bowl title.

Winnipeg kicks off its season on June 10, hosting the Ottawa Redblacks at 7:30 p.m. CT.
