BELTON- Facing the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne University on Saturday night, the UMHB men’s and women’s soccer teams competed well in two hard-fought matches.
In the women’s contest, UMHB and HPU played to a scoreless draw, as both teams had scoring opportunities, but neither was able to find the back of the net. Seven different players took at least two shots for the Cru, as they moved to 10-0-1 on the year. UMHB is now in second place in the ASC standings, just behind Concordia (TX), who the Crusaders face on Oct. 28.
In the men’s match that followed, the Crusaders took a 2-0 halftime lead, and held on for a 3-2 victory. It marked their third straight victory, and second of the week. Patrick Roach scored less than two minutes in for UMHB, and Ethan Dacaret found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Nick Villanueva made it 3-1 with his goal in the 63rd minute. UMHB is now 7-1-2, and atop the conference standings.
