The UMHB football coaching staff brought in a number of talented defensive players in the Class of 2023, including Bridgeland High School standout Dillan Botts. A 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive tackle, Botts committed to UMHB on April 17.

He was sidelined for much of his senior season, suffering a back injury in the third game of the year. Bridgeland went on to win the district title with a 5-2 record in a very tough Houston-area district. Botts was a force for Bridgeland’s defensive line in 2021 as a junior, and has an ideal blend of speed and strength necessary to get around opposing offensive linemen. In addition to his offer from UMHB, Botts also had four D2 offers as well, before announcing his commitment.

Additionally, Botts was one of six Houston-area student-athletes who earned a $10,000 scholarship from Reliant Energy and the Houston Texans for athletic and academic excellence.
The goal of the scholarship program is to “motivate students to pursue their dreams of higher education and celebrate their achievements as athletes”

In this edition of “Catching up with the Commits”, Botts talks with True To The Cru’s Riley Zayas about his high school career, what he learned in Bridgeland’s program, and committing to UMHB. Listen now!
